Here Women Talk

Hello, glamour girls.  I am a friend of Dorothy (aka Sarah Palin's doppelgänger) and am longing for some good beauty blab.  So here goes my stab at a topic... OTC retinol products! I have been a devoted user of Roc Deep Wrinkle Serum and/or Neutrogena Deep Wrinkle Serum every nigh for years, and I have to say, they do get the job done.  They're not as powerful as Botox, and they take steady and consistent use, but at 42 my skin looks pretty good (as in, kind of frozen at 35 and holding).  I have been using it consistently for 5 years on the orbital region of my eyes, and in the last year or so have been slathering it around the periphery of my lips (to cut down on crow's feet) , and I have begun to use it on my neck, cleavage, and that annoying little flab-prone patch just under my chin.  Anyone else use it?  I think it's certainly a good value, and with consistent use it can be as effective as prescription retinoids.

That's great info. I haven't used the ROC and will look into it when my other runs out. But i love mine so i don't know - it is pricey though!

I read somewhere that sometimes drug store brands are even better than dept store brands because the big companies have more money for research! My brand is on drugstore.com now - does that count? :)
I have not tried their serums. Are they REAL serums - like a thick syrupy consistancy? Or is it a cream?
I love ROC products so I may have to try......hmmmm And you do look GREAT. I use the ROC undereye cream.

Also I just started trying the Kirkland serum from Costco. My friend swears by it. We went in on a 2 pack and I think it was like.....$20 in the end. HUGE jar of it!!!
I do like the kirkland. I've been using it for a while. Seems to do a great job. I will have to give the ROC products a try.
Carolyn, is this the serum from the line Borghese created with Costco? or something else?
yes it is.
I like it!!!
Nah, I'm only talking about real serums. IMO, creams dilute the effect of the retinoids. Apply serum, wait until it dries, then moisturize if you need it (I usually do). Checking out the Kirkland serum...

OTC Retinol products are  not as strong or effective as either prescription strength  Retin-A or medical grade Retinol that you can buy from your derm or plastic surgeon's office. The reason is that companies can not put high amounts of retinol in OTC because of safety issues and liability.  A .05% OTC Retinol  will be as strong as .05% Retin-A or Vitamin without the irritation and cost of a Retin-A. Retinol bio-converts to Vitamin A in the dermal layer of the skin, so you do get the benefit of it.   Many companies who only sell to medical practices make a stronger than drug store Retinol product. You will get better results for your $$. Best to use a Retinol with a good anti-oxidant Vitamin C serum.  Vitamin - A is the only proven ingredient that builds collagen and ellastin in our skin. So you are on the right track!

I will be taking more about anti-aging products in my new beauty group here.. Beauty Talk for the Beauty Obsessed.  I hope you will join my new group.
