Tommie Brewster, Blues Hall of Fame Ambassador to New Zealand, has been a musician all her life and cannot remember a time when she didn’t play piano. Tommie started before she was four years old and studied classical music at the Royal Academy of Music in London, playing several other instruments also.
At home, Tommie's influences ranged from jazz to ragtime, from swing to reggae, from rock to heavy metal, but it was always blues that spoke loudest to her and it was always Tommie's dream to write, play and sing her own blues music.
Every musician absorbs influences and Tommie
was no exception, but she did not knowingly emulate or imitate
anyone; she wrote her blues the way she heard it in her heart and
her head.
Tommie had a dream to produce her own music which she has now
achieved. She writes music almost every day and loves every single
minute of it.
Currently number one blues artist in New Zealand for more than two
years, Tommie is the first Indie Blues artist to be featured
on The
Jazz Network Worldwide, is nominated for a Radio
Grammy and
is honored to have received the Inaugural
Independent Musician Award 2010 from Global
Thunda Network part of the Australian
Broadcasting Network.
Tommie is also an Ambassador for the charity Global Flying
Hospitals facilitating medical help
worlwide and Regional Ambassador for Oceania at
Act Against Injustice which fights against child trafficking all
around the world.
Tommie's music is heard on her website http://www.tommiebrewster.com
and her poetry and spoken word is on http://tommietalking.com
The dream, the adventure, the journey continues. "Music is my
life," says Tommie.
