What Does It Mean to Be a "Cancer Survivor?"

As we sweep away the final remnants of pink that have come to symbolize October, I realize that I am 3 years past my chemo treatment that started October 16, 2008.  I'm still here - that makes me a "survivor" - but what does that mean?I don’t know why some of us survive and others do not, no matter how fiercely they may fight. There are those that face devastating battles, which leaves me feeling I am in no position to complain. My case was merely a case of sniffles in comparison. To be a cancer…See More

Creative Intentions

How can we support and encourage each other's creativity? Let's look at creativity in its largest sense: creating not only art in all its many forms, but also in that most precious commodity, our lives.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, one of my greatest fears was how to deal with total hair loss, especially being in public every day.

By the time I lost my hair, my skin was so sensitive that I was not able to wear wigs.

I started wrapping scarves and loved the idea that my head was now an accessory, with colors to match any outfit!

The nurses and patients would always brighten up when they saw the scarves, but wanted an easy version that was already wrapped.

The head wraps made everyone smile and feel - well, titillated.
And the idea of Titillating Turbans was born.

They were created to help women remember – that they are so much more than their hair.

No matter what happens to our bodies, we will find a way to decorate and celebrate the beauty that comes from within.

Turbans and head wraps are now a popular fashion accessory, to enjoy with or without hair. So we all work toward the days beyond cancer – when no one will need to deal with the side effects of chemo, and women can decorate their heads just for fun.

In the meantime, it's my mission to help women remember that even when going through the difficult ordeal of chemo we are always feminine, beautiful and strong.

Welcome, Laurie! I loved reading your story about the turbins. How wonderful. Not only did you find a way to deal with hair loss, but also you get to express your passion for reminding women they are always feminine, beautiful and strong. That's a great message. I also really like your blog. We're getting ready to incorporate a wordpress into this network, and I hope you'll add some of your blogs.

As you may know, we have many groups and we stream internet radio 24/7 to entertain our members with music (really good music, too--check it out here), and weekdays with live talk. Listen by clicking the orange "Listen" button, upper right corner. We invite you to call-in or chat-in with your comments and questions.  You can see our week-at-a-glance here.  And we have many groups, depending on your interests, you might want to join. Thanks for joining us, and hope you'll invite your friends to join using this link.
